Let’s Clarify: the free coffee given away for free on the first full day of spring at Bay Shore’s Kismet Coffee Company was strictly for the adults in the room—the two-legged ones. The delighted children from Fire Island’s Woodhull Elementary School, interacting with the friendly pooches from the Long Island Chapter of Canine Companions ® were generating positive energy independently.

Founded by Jackson Davis, Kismet Coffee originated on Fire Island in 2022 and later opened its year-round headquarters in Bay Shore in March 2024. Canine Companions is celebrating 50 years as a nonprofit organization training service dogs for people with disabilities.

Free hot and cold brews were available all day, along with merchandise raffles, bakery treats inspired by the puppies, and limited-edition bags of a signature roast of Kismet Coffee. All proceeds from these sales benefit Canine Companions.

How did all of this happen? The limited-edition coffee tells the story, showcasing a picture of Jackson’s older brother, Nicolas, along with his companion dog, Feathers. Efforts like this will pave the way for future generations of children and adults in need, as well as the dogs who will be there for them.
