We got a little too loose concerning COVID. It was a premature decision but we should now all go back to wearing masks and being concerned of our participation in groups and social events.
An important election in Cherry Grove will be held this September. Diane Romano will be stepping down as president of Cherry Grove Community Association (CGCAI) after 12 years of dedicated service. Two candidates are running to fill the vacancy she will leave behind. A debate will be held on Aug. 15, moderated by Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association President Henry Robin in the Cherry Grove Community House, beginning at 10 a.m. All members of CGCAI are invited to meet the candidates. It will be very interesting to listen to the candidates’ thoughts concerning the destiny of Cherry Grove.
The Pines Party’s Return to Wonderland exceeded expectations since it was a return to the Fire Island party days we love and missed. Produced by John Wood, with the help of many volunteers including Randy Wilson, they partied till dawn. As per the tradition, tents were installed on the beach funded by many sponsors, surrounding a main dance floor. Michael and I attended the pre-party on Friday night at Allan Baum and Frank Liberto’s home. Davida Jones made her entrance as the Queen of Hearts. Wonderland has truly returned to the Pines.
Cherry Grove Arts Project President Panzi greeted the audience by saying, “The best way to start our season is with Rose Levine, she always sells out!” Next, the vibrant Davida walked down the aisle and set the tone for what would be a truly theatrical and decadent evening.
Davida Jones, our Cherry Grove Homecoming Queen, was accompanied by an entourage of 20 dressed in a Rainbow and Progressive Flag Theme. They arrived just as the Pines pre-show on the dock was about to conclude, hosted by the incredible Shaquita. President Henry Robin was introduced and he welcomed everyone. Performers included Luis Villabon, Rose Levine and Seth Sykes. All the schedule changes meant that the crowd was not as full as in past years, but it was still a memorable event.
