Bay Shore’s busy Main Street became even bustling on Sunday, June 9, during the annual Arts Festival by the Bay. First held in 2002, this festival is a time-honored showcase for local businesses, clubs, and organizations to sell their products, advertise their services. Everyone enjoys a nice summer’s day with the larger Bay Shore community.

Almost every restaurant and store on Main Street opened their doors to the public, while merchants set up tents and stands to sell everything from pretzels and pickles on a stick, to homemade candles and beeswax products.

“Usually, we only have fellow comic book fans come to our store,” said Kevin Dempsey, owner of Lost Planet, Bay Shore’s sole comic book store. “But today we also have a lot of people who are just generally more curious about what our store’s like.”

In spite of the morning’s significant rain, people showed up. Everyone in attendance, from the Bay Shore School District’s student marching bands, as well as symphonies and the West Islip Lions Club. There were also petting zoos and fortune tellers. Even Northwell Health was there and thrilled to take part in one of Bay Shore’s most beloved events.
