Hot fun in the summer time! The hottest event of the summer had to be our July 4 Parade held, as always, on July 4. Grand Marshall Garrett Anger led the festive group of marchers around town to cheers, oohs and ahhs. Sponsored by the DPA and DPFD, with generous contributions from the community – especially Lisa Rose on behalf of Clare Rose and George Kulman, who provided the quenching beverages – prizes were donated by the Casino, Harbor Store, Davis Park Ferry, Pepperidge Walk, Joel Silverman and Evelyn Palladino. Thanks to Cory, Mikey Nick and fellas at the Caz, judges Elissa Nemerofsky, Patti Nicholson, Jayne Robinson, Gigi Blanca and Ginger Beane had a birds-eye view. Marlene Sklar, Kim Pino and Lee Cillo ably kept the marchers together. The coveted wagon, painted by Nolan Grunwald, was awarded to the Founding Mothers, Fathers and Future Leaders, but all marchers received a prize and were treated to “God Bless America” by Nancy Pines and post-parade beverages and burgers and dogs cooked by Rett, Neil, Kathie, Jay, Jimmy V and other volunteers at the firehouse. Thanks to everyone who joined the fun – Guess the Famous Davis Park Leaders, Chic’s Kazoos, Chillin’ and Grillin’ – and the spectators who cheered on our patriotic marchers.
The fun doesn’t end there so don’t fret if you missed it! Davis Park’s Got Talent is sure to be a hit, so get your ticket for the Aug. 5 show from Linda at the Post Office. (Please buy stamps too, we need our Post Office!) Friends of DP Movie Nights are coming up, with “Elf” next on July 22. CRAB’s Art Show will be Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Church. Don’t forget Story Time every Tuesday at the DP Library/PO, courtesy of the Patchogue-Medford Library. To be sure you’ll be around for all the fun, stop by Bedside Manor for a free blood pressure screening at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 25, Aug. 8 and 22.
Bedside Manor lost beloved Dr. Alan Ashare, who passed away in early July. When he left the beach in 2017, he had spent 50 years providing medical services to the Davis Park community. We’ll miss him. Another loss to the community is Dennis McLaughlin, longtime DPFD member and friend. Condolences all around.
We also celebrate friends, birthdays and just because! Claire Baum had a great week with Athena Buckley, Lizzy Kalomeris and Michelle Weaver. Joel Silverman tells us that Anne’s family, Diane, Joey, Mathew, Nick, Chris and Karen Celfo, had fun clamming, fishing (not catching) and playing loads of games. Yours truly had a terrific birthday (with sangria still to come!), including importing Cousin Laura from Texas for her big 6-0. Dr. Dave had celebratory fun with the Dixon clan, Jake Miraglia turned the 21 at the Caz (where else?) and Jake Foley and Leighann – counting the days until their nuptials – shared birthday bliss in the meantime.
There is so much going on … please send your tips, tidbits and tattles to DPRidgeFI@gmail.com. See you around the walks!
