In Mrs. Bates’ fifth-grade class at North Babylon School District’s William E. DeLuca Elementary School, students are exploring food webs and ecosystems, focusing on the essential role of producers in the process. They have been learning about how energy flows through food chains – from producers to consumers and decomposers. Students recently took a hands-on approach by planting seeds, allowing them to observe firsthand how producers grow and contribute to an ecosystem. Through this activity, the class will track plant growth, make scientific observations, and deepen their understanding of how producers support the entire food web.
