Juneteenth Fire Island

June 18 @ 5:00 pm - June 20 @ 9:00 pm

free
Juneteenth is a celebration tied to the story of Black people in Galveston, Texas, learning that they had been emancipated, close to two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863.
The holiday, celebrated annually on June 19th, not only commemorates the end of racial chattel slavery across the United States, but reminds us that while progress has been made, the struggle for racial equality and justice continues.
JUNETEENTH FIRE ISLAND will celebrate the contributions of Black and brown people with a weekend-long event of highly curated activities designed to educate, inspire, and entertain.
We will be having important salon conversations about race and equity, bringing out amazing dj’s for JuneTEA, having a Beach Solidarity March in honor of Black lives, and even throwing Fire Island’s very first Mx. Juneteenth Drag Pageant!
While thinking about our commitment to equity and actively carving out spaces for Black and brown people to be celebrated, we are so excited to announce our first event of the season!. BaBEC is grateful to have support from and stand in coalition with organizations such as Arts Project Cherry Grove, the Committee on Black Equality in Fire Island Pines, Gays Against Guns, Fire Island Artist Residency, Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association and the Cherry Grove Community Association, who without their support, the magnitude of this weekend would not be possible.
ALL EVENTS WILL BE ADHERING TO GUIDELINES FOR COVID-19.
