Diamondback Terrapin Monitoring ~ “Community Science LI” 2021 Monthly Webinar Series

John Turner, Senior Conservation Policy Advocate for Seatuck Environmental Association, will explore the natural history, biology, and ecology of the Diamondback Terrapin on Long Island.

Nancy Grant, Director of Programs, for Friends of Flax Pond will discuss the studies occurring in Flax Pond and at West Meadow Beach as part of their effort to assess the health of local terrapin populations.

Arielle Santos, Policy Program Coordinator (also of Seatuck), will show how community scientists can log sightings of terrapins or terrapin activity using Seatuck’s “Terrapin Watch” app in order to aid in the preservation of critical nesting and foraging habitat.

The Community Science LI series is presented by Seatuck Environmental Association in partnership with Long Island Sound Study, Seagrant, South Shore Estuary Reserve, and Peconic Estuary Partnership.
