As Bellport Village Hall approaches its 100th year, the historic structure is getting a facelift. Constructed in 1923, originally as a Memorial Library to honor fallen local heroes from World War I, the building was converted into a municipal hall 62 years later.
“Village Hall is one of the most visible buildings in the community, and we are thrilled to be able to restore it to its original Greek Revival style,” said Bellport Mayor Maureen Veitch.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Aymar Embury II, a well-known East End architect of the era, designed it. Embury sat on President Theodore Roosevelt’s Advisory Committee on Architecture from 1934 to 1943 and was the architect for the Central Park Zoo.
