Fire Island Pines: Three Homes Lost in Early Morning Blaze
By Shoshanna McCollumBREAKING: Three structures are a total loss, and one severely damaged in the wake of a massive blaze that engulfed several houses in Fire Island Pines in the early hours of Friday morning, June 16.A mutual aid alarm was activated for a working structure fire at approximately 1 a.m. at 155 and 156 Pine Walk. Eighteen separate fire and law enforcement agencies, both on Fire Island, as well as the mainland traveling via ferry from Sayville, responded to the call, with approximately 135 responders at the scene.“High wind conditions made it difficult to contain the fire,” said Ocean Beach Fire Chief Ian Levine who was on location.The fire was deemed under control at 3:30 a.m. One firefighter was taken to Southside Hospital for medical evaluation in Bay Shore.
