This Week Atlantique

This Week AtlantiqueBy Kirsten Corssen“Mark Your Calendars”Some say the best time of year is when snow is falling and the Christmas tree is lit, but the Atlantique community believes the best time of year is when you’re at the beach and the hot sun is shining. The only presents we need are high SPF sunscreen and cold ice to keep the coolers chilled. The only lights needed are sunshine and twinkling red, white, and blue to show our patriotism. Here at Atlantique Marina we create our own holidays. So take notes and mark your calendar so you can participate in all the “Atlantique holidays” that will be taking place summer 2016.The ShackI guess you can say that every day is a holiday at The Shack in Atlantique. Between the owner Gavin’s crispy french fries, and Brian the bartender’s icy Rocket Fuels, there are always reasons to celebrate. If the cuisine doesn’t draw you in while walking back from a long day at the beach, the live music will. This summer starting June 25, every Saturday, and Sunday there will be live music making you want to sing along with coming from 2 – 5 p.m. at The Shack. Also on every first Friday of each month, July, August, and September there will be more live music. All the live bands are local Long Island musicians that will keep you entertained all evening.Photo 1LifeguardsYou can officially swim all week long without worries of being swept away in the rip current, as of June 24. The Town of Islip lifeguards will be on duty at Atlantique Beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday over the summer. Islip’s lifeguards are Red Cross trained professionals that are ready for any type of emergency, even if it is as simple as a Band-Aid or a hole dug in the sand for your umbrella pole.4th of JulyIndependence Day may be celebrated all over the country, but no one really does it like the Fire Island or Atlantique community. This is truly the Christmas of the summer months, when everyone gets together to celebrate our great country. The Fourth of July crowd at Atlantique is usually full of more then just the locals. Just make sure you get your slip in time because the marina fills up fast! Once you are in the opportunities are endless on how to spend your holiday here: Walk down to The Shack for a cold drink, relax on the beach, or chill behind the boat. No matter what you do Atlantique Marina is the spot to be for Fourth of July.Ocean Charity Swim – July 9The Fifth Annual Fire Island Ocean Charity Swim will take off on the shoreline at Atlantique Beach. Kids can swim the 400 meter or 1 mile, adults ages 18 and over can swim the 1 mile, 5k, or 10k. If you don’t feel like swimming it you should volunteer to give a helping hand to a great organization. Volunteers are needed; check-in staff, junior lifeguards, SUP paddlers and ocean kayakers. All who volunteer will receive round-trip ferry tickets, food, water, shelter, and staff race T-shirts. For information to sign up for the race or volunteering please visit www.openwaterswimli.comPhoto 2Rich MahoganySaturday, August 6 is the official date for this year’s classic Atlantique Rich Mahogany concert. As usual it will take place in the east side handball courts. This concert is an Atlantique favorite that brings many people together to listen to good music and show off some dance moves. Make sure to bring the boat over earlier in the week again because spots go quick for this amazing concert.Annual George Hallock and Friends Clam TournamentSaturday, August 20 will be the George Hallock and friends Clam Tournament. This Atlantique tradition is truly a holiday celebrated on the docks with many clams involved. The day will start early as the boaters race out to the best clam beds to dig up as many as they can before the time is up. Make sure to sign up with the Hallock family so you can claim your own T-shirt this year!News tips for Kirsten? Email her at atlantique@fireisland-news.com.
