New York City residents fleeing the pandemic’s epicenter during the first wave in March 2020 flocked to the beach – whether it was their second home or a rental – despite warnings from local officials that resources are scarce in the off-season. That was a tradeoff that many were willing to make to avoid the virus.

Christi worked with many friends in the community over the winter to raise funds for a memorial bench on Bay Walk near Evergreen in memory of her best friend, Beth Errico. The loss of Beth last September was a devastating loss for many of us in the community, and my columns this season are dedicated to her memory.

Structure Fire in Saltaire, 6/25/21

“There were no injuries reported and we thank our mutual aid partners as well as Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, Suffolk County Police Department, PSEG Long Island, Fire Island National Seashore and the Village of Saltaire for their assistance. Our thoughts are with the homeowners during this difficult time,” read a statement that Saltaire Fire Company released on Facebook later that evening.
