Saturday, September 12 (3 p.m.) 60th Annual Miss Fire Island Pageant The Ice Palace, 1 Main Walk, Cherry Grove, is thrilled to announce this year’s Miss Fire Island Pageant, featuring hosts Logan Hardcore, 2011 Miss Fire Island, and Ariel Sinclair, 2002 Miss Fire Island. This year’s theme, “There’s No Place Like Home,” is a subtle nod to the classic film The Wizard of Oz. A special All Stars category will feature past pageant winners. Sunday, September 13 (1 p.m.) Miss Isle of Fire Contest The 6th Annual Miss Isle of Fire contest will be held at The Island Mermaid, 780 Bay Walk, Ocean Beach. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the show begins at 1 p.m. Whether you’re a fan or a first-timer, this event is all about good vibes and great company. Friday, August 28 (7 p.m.) Lilacs & Roses: Book Signing and Poetry Reading The Babylon Village Historical Society and the Babylon Village Arts Council invite you to an evening of poetry, inspiration, and celebration at the Babylon Village Museum, 117 W Main St., Babylon. Sunday, August 16 (Noon–4 p.m.) Support two great causes at this community fundraiser benefiting Canine Companions and the Kismet Community Association. Held at Dive Kismet, the afternoon will feature live music, local vendors, raffles, food and drinks, and the chance to meet service dogs, puppies, and veterans. Admission is $20 per person and includes a raffle ticket for a chance to win a VIP tour for four of Canine Companions’ Medford campus. Proceeds will support Canine Companions’ mission and programs that benefit the Kismet community.

In her artist statement, Marlene Weinstein writes: “This hanging assemblage reflects the beauty and fragility of freedom. The fifty sun‑printed cyanotypes embody the serenity and joy that freedom makes possible, while the collaged stripes echo our long, imperfect, and ongoing pursuit of liberty. Each fragment is pinned in place with the most delicate of connections, suggesting how easily these ideals can fray. Freedom survives because we choose, again and again, to protect the ideals that hold it together.”

Opening Friday, May 1 Awakenings The BAFFA Art Gallery will feature a multi-media exhibit by Women Sharing Art in May. The exhibit includes painting, photography, mosaics, sculpture, fiber arts, and mixed media. “Awakenings explores moments of transformation, discovery, and renewed awareness.” The show can be viewed at the Gallery, Thursdays through Sundays, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. An artists’ reception and awards for students whose work was exhibited at the student art show will take place on May 2 from 1 - 4 PMp.m. The BAFFA Gallery is located in the historic Gillette House at 47 Gillette Avenue in Sayville.
